His top advice? Go to class! Not only does it help you learn course material, it’s also the first step in getting to know your professors.

Even though going to class is important, sometimes things come up and you have to miss a class. When that happens, plan ahead for how you’ll get notes. Who do you know? Does the professor post info or notes? Can a TA fill you in?

(Pro tip: do not ask your professor “did I miss anything?” Professors meticulously plan out each class to cover the most important topics. The answer is always “yes,” so ask how you can best learn what you missed.)
