scope out non-academic resources

College isn’t just about academics!

Colleges provide a huge variety of resources to support your overall wellbeing. Make a habit of checking with yours first whenever you’re searching for support.

Although each college has different resources; here are just a few to give you a sense of some common ones:

  • recreation: gym, fitness classes, sports, organized outings, equipment rental
  • wellness: student health clinic, free screenings, counseling, crisis support, workshops
  • career: career advising, job fairs, resume & interview coaching, alumni networking
  • advocacy offices: EOP, disability and accessibility office, multicultural center
  • technology: discounted or free computers & software, IT support
  • direct aid: school supplies, food pantry, legal aid, cars to rent or borrow

You can explore these resources before school starts—and it’s a good idea to refresh your memory periodically throughout college, too. The more familiar you are with the resources available, the more effectively you’ll be able to use them.
