meet coach Karina

“College is about finding yourself, your community, and your purpose.”

1
about me

I grew up in a small town called Porterville, CA, and later transferred to UC Berkeley where I majored in ethnic studies.

Beyond academics, I’m a huge fan of horror movies and I never miss a chance to go to Disneyland. I also enjoy exploring new food spots in the Bay Area—or watching movies in bed and ordering takeout.

2
why I’m a college coach

Being a Black and Mexican first-generation college student and coming from a single parent home, I never thought college was for me. There were so many obstacles in place that could have prevented me from succeeding in college, but against all odds I was able to graduate from UC Berkeley, and I vowed to make sure other students like me felt like college was attainable. As a College Coach I’m able to help students navigate campuses that weren’t built for them but nonetheless make them feel like they belong and they matter.

3
my advice

College is much more than just grades and academics, it’s about finding yourself, your community, and your purpose. College can be the best time of your life—if you let it!

Take advantage of all the events your college has to offer. Whether it’s a networking event, a cooking class, or even a yoga session, do it all and see what you really love!

And remember to take care of yourself in every way—mentally, physically, and emotionally. It’s so important to put yourself and your body first.
