meet coach Maria

Maria encourages you to establish routines early, get familiar with campus resources, and make time for yourself.

1
about me

I was born and raised in Venezuela and moved to the United States when I was 14. I attended Georgia Southern University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in music education. I was active on campus as part of several student-led organizations and music ensembles, and served as a campus tour guide and orientation leader. As the first in my family to attend school in the U.S., higher education was a completely new world to me, and I made mistakes and missed opportunities I wish I hadn’t, though I didn’t realize it until much later.

Outside of work, I enjoy baking, spending time with friends, going out in nature, and spending time with my two cats.

2
why I’m a coach

One of my biggest motivators to becoming a college coach is wanting to empower students and help them make decisions that will benefit them most as they move through one of the most important moments in their life so far.

3
my advice for you

I want to leave you with three pieces of advice. First, establish routines from the very beginning. Things are lighter at the start of your term, so use that time to build studying, networking, and self-care habits before things get busy, those habits are what will get you through. Second, get familiar with the resources offered on your campus; there’s so much available to you for free. And lastly, make sure to reserve time for yourself to take care of you.
