Tien encourages you to step outside your comfort zone, look for people who support you, and build community.
I grew up in Georgia, but I was born in Vietnam and came to the U.S. when I was five. I graduated from Oglethorpe University in 2024 with a degree in psychology and continuing my Master’s in Applied Industrial and Organizational Psychology at George Mason University. During my time in college, I served as a mentor for first-year students who were transitioning into the college life.
Outside of academics and work, I enjoy arts and crafts, so that includes drawing, painting, pottery, digital art, etc.
I became a college coach because I lived through many of the challenges that you B12 scholars are facing. Growing up, I didn’t have anyone to guide me through the step-by-step process of college, but along the way, I met incredible mentors, teachers, professors, families, and friends who gave me small bits of advice, encouragement, and support that helped me with the success of my journey. And now I want to become that same kind of support for you all, someone who listens, understands, and helps you move forward with confidence.
My biggest advice for you all is don’t try to go through college alone. Don’t isolate yourself. Look for the people who support and allow yourself to build community. Some of the best opportunities, connections, and memories come from stepping outside of your comfort zone.
